Air India Delhi-Moscow flight called back after pilot found corona positive
NEW DELHI: An Air India aircraft winging its way from Delhi to Moscow on Saturday morning had to be called back to Delhi from over Uzbekistan after the airline realised that one of the pilots onboard had tested corona positive. An oversight by the team checking pre-flight test reports of crew members had mistakenly read this captain’s positive report as negative and released him for the ferry flight (meaning with no passengers and only crew) to fly back Indians from Moscow.
The Airbus A-320 Neo (VT-EXR) returned to Delhi at about 12.30 pm and now the crew will be quarantined as per norms. This plane will be fumigated and the airline is sending another A320 Neo to Moscow later on Saturday afternoon to fly back Indians from there.
Good work Air India. Its human to make a mistake but it needs courage to own up and take corrective action. Truly Appreciate
We salute Air India staff who are working in a risky situation, without full pay for 3 months and very irregular pay for last one year. Here it needs the courage to own up the mistake.
very commendable, honesty always pays. I am sure everyone will be paid albeit with some delay, am proud of the crew and pilots that duty has taken precedence over hardship ... salute...
Great salute to AI for 'not covering up' the issue
That's a gross mistake. Don't know how many must have got infected from him.
We are not like Chinese.. We understand our responsibilities and do not spread the virus...Good work by Air India..
It seems this is a genuine mistake and more importantly Air India instead of trying to cover up were bold enough to recall the flight. Well learn from the mistake n be more careful henceforth.
Immediate action was done by Air India. If it had went and came back there may be more new cases
very good work and worth appreciating work by air india management staff.
