India's moon lander 'Vikram' is in one piece and 'very close' to where it was supposed to land, space agency confirms after the Chandrayaan-2 mission lost contact and crash-landed moments before touchdown on Friday night

India's pioneering Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft is intact after a hard landing on the lunar surface, 'very close' to its planned touch-down site.

There were fears that the lunar lander had been damaged after the Indian Space Research Organisation lost contact with it on Friday night.

But officials have now confirmed it is still in one piece and is currently lying on the lunar surface in a tilted position.

Communication has not been re-established, however.

Why are we still giving India money when they can afford a space program?

Why are we still giving India aid money when they stated in 2012 that they didn't want it....

As India obviously doesn't need our aid money any more can we switch it to the Bahamas?

This is really good news, sham millions of Indians are starving in squalid conditions. Still the good ol UK can send even more cash to India to help the poor.

If India can afford space travel, they shouldn't be allowed to receive aid?

There are now a record 842 Indian companies operating in the UK, with combined revenues of over 48 billion (up from 46.4 billion in 2018). Together, they paid almost 684 million in corporation tax (360 million in 2018) and employed 104,783 people (104,932 in 2018). AID TO BRITAIN BY INDIANS.

Presumably the UK and its citizens are paying for the goods they produce?

Let's hear it for India's space programme, meanwhile millions of their people are starving & abandoned kids are sleeping in cardboard boxes on the streets.

And we send them aid money!!

bobknee, Wokingham, United Kingdom, 17 hours ago

And we still send overseas aid to India. Indirectly we are funding their space programme.

A few years ago UK couldn't afford two Eurofighters for our protection,we gave India aid and they used the money to buy two Eurofighters, and we're expected to trust our government to do the right thing with our taxes, pathetic

I dont understand why a country where tens if not hundreds of millions of citizens are too poor to afford to poo in the loo is blowing money on moon landings, nuclear weapons, and even nuclear submarines.

Runestone, Dublin, United Kingdom, 20 hours ago

Such idiots talking about aid to India without knowing any facts. India has refused aid from UK previously. India doesn't want UK aid, but how about returning all the wealth UK looted from India during the colonial times, and reparation/ compensation for the cold blooded Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

It is not loot, it is the spoils of conquest.
